The building was opened early in the 1920's as the “Teacher's Residence” for the St. Francis of Assisi Church Elementary School. At any given time, up to 14 nuns from the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary's of the Springs lived in the building and taught the classes in the school next door. In 1970 the school was closed and the Convent was no longer needed as a residence.
