Description
Built in the 1890's, this large 3BD/ 3.5BA Victorian single family house has a story to tell. For some 50 years the home has been in the owner's family and in 2018 was featured on HGTV's "This Old House". While completely renovated and restored, the home retains many of its original historic touches, yet manages to provide all the modern comforts one would want during a stay here in Charleston. The hard work did not go unnoticed, as the house won the 2018 Carolopolis Award for Best Renovation. If you are looking to experience the melting pot that is Charleston, surrounded by art, this house is for you.
The Space:
As soon as you enter through the front door you will get a sense of the owner's travels and design inspiration. The home features pops of color that evoke the Bermudians that originally settled Charleston, and honors the Africans that brought their culture and technology to the Carolina gold rice fields that made Charleston famous. The whole first floor boasts large windows letting in loads of natural light, with museum quality reproduction hardware and original art from all around the world, the African Diaspora in particular. The living room features plenty of comfortable seating, a flat screen TV, and a beautiful brick fireplace.
Just off the living room is the kitchen and dining room. In the dining room you will also find a brick fireplace and a large live edge dining table with seating for six. The kitchen features a large island with seating for three, loads of cabinet space, and upgraded stainless steel appliances. The kitchen comes fully stocked with all of your necessary cooking essentials including a Keurig coffee machine!
Accessible via its own entrance through the back door is the Bermuda Room, the first of the three bedrooms. With a queen size bed, luxurious en-suite bathroom, and flat screen TV, the Bermuda Room provides comfort and privacy. There is also a large porch which leads to the lush garden, planted with jasmine, hibiscus and loquats, just outside the bedroom door.
Heading upstairs you will find the additional two bedrooms and hallway laundry room. The large Master Suite, also known as The Africa Room features a king size bed, seating area, large closet, brick fireplace, TV, and en suite bathroom. This bathroom has both a large soaking tub and a tile shower. Off of the Master is a large porch with a hammock, perfect for relaxing, and a small table with two cane chairs to enjoy an espresso or glass of wine. The upstairs guest bedroom, The Carolina Room, features a king size bed, brick fireplace, and ensuite bathroom with tile shower. There is another porch off of this bedroom with a table and chairs meant to entice you to people watch on Bogard Street, or enjoy a meal al fresco.
* One small car can fit in the driveway just beside the home. Two additional off street parking spaces are located behind the home.
* No pets allowed *
In addition to the security deposit of one full month’s rent and monthly rent charges, you are required to pay a move out cleaning fee of $525 upon signing the lease agreement.
* Please note that any bookings less than 90 days are subject to the City of Charleston's 10% accommodations tax. Tax is charged on the rental rate, cleaning fee, and pet fee (if applicable). *
The Neighborhood - Cannonborough/Elliotborough:
The house is located in the heart of the charming and trendy Cannonborough/Elliotborough district of Downtown Charleston. With its friendly neighbors, cozy restaurants, and tree-lined streets, our neighborhood will immerse you in Charleston's classic charm. Popular dining spots in the neighborhood include Chubby Fish, Xiao Bao Biscuit, Fuel, Goulette, R Kitchen and the Warehouse for drinks. Our guests and neighbors also rave about Brown's Court Bakery located nearby. We recommend going here for a cup of locally-roasted coffee and the delicious croissants and breakfast sandwiches. The house is only a short walk from the very popular King Street where you will find a multitude of great shops – including antique shops, book stores, and fashion boutiques – as well as buzzing restaurants. Publix conveniently located nearby on Lockwood Drive as well.
Other things to note:
Our Housekeeping Team members clean and sanitize all hard surfaces of our vacation homes, including but not limited to floors, countertops, railings, sink faucets, appliances, doorknobs, and light switches. The quality of disinfectants we use should remove 100 percent of the microscopic organisms on surfaces, and effectively stop the spread of disease and viruses. Linens and towels are laundered offsite at our linen facility. There is no evidence to suggest that this particular coronavirus will survive the wash chemistry and temperatures in the wash and dry process. All soiled linens are treated as if they are contaminated. Our housekeeping staff is trained to use the best hygiene practices at all times. With the combination of these best practices, our employees, clients, and guests should be safe from the spread of coronavirus.
