Overall Score 5/5
I had the pleasure of staying in this home last year during the fall semester 2022. I traveled for law school, from Chile, and my friend Camila and I were very lucky to rent the two upstairs rooms. Robbie and Dave were very welcoming to us, they went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. At no point did I feel like I as intruding or that I had to stay locked up in my room. I spent time in the kitchen sharing nice chat about our days, in the pool (and jacuzzi), and the upstairs living room watching plenty of TV. They were both very helpful. Dave let me use his bike while mine was broken and shared his collection of fun drinks with me, Robbie took us shopping, and the house itself holds many of my dearest memories. They met all our friends, as they hosted dinners for us, and always insisted on us having our friends over. The house is beautiful and big. Both rooms upstairs are spacious, with storage space, great beds and very tidy and clean. The bathroom is great because the shower and toilet are both individually closed which allowed us to use it at the same time, and each of us had our sink! Robbie and Dave were still the best part of the house. They're very understanding, flexible and willing to help. And this home was the best part of my stay in Davis.
My name is Camila and I stayed in Robbie and Dave house during the fall semester of 2022. I traveled from Chile to do an exchange program in UC Davis Law School. They are the most amazing people, and I was very lucky to find this rental. They were welcoming and always make us feel in home even when we were really far from it. One of the best things of Davis for me was staying in their home. I highly recommended it.
I am a student from Ireland who stayed in this property for 1 semester to study law from January 2023 to May 2023, with one other Irish student. I couldn't recommend this place enough. Dave and Robbie are incredibly kind, helpful and generous people who welcomed me into their home. They give you plenty of freedom and independence, while also being there for you if you ever need help with anything. They welcomed our friends into their home also, and we had great fun using their pool and other great facilities. The layout of the house means you get your own room, and if staying with another student, a shared bathroom. There is a great upstairs living space that we often used for movie nights with out friends. The house is in a great location, with great bus routes and bike lanes available. It is also easy to get to Sacramento and San Francisco by public transport. I was incredibly lucky to be able to stay with Dave and Robbie and would highly recommend their accommodation to anyone.
I am a law student from Dublin in Ireland and I had the privilege of staying with Dave and Robbie for one semester last year (January-June 2023). To say it was a pleasure to stay with them is an understatement. Not only are they the kindest people, they were also generous enough to welcome me into their home and let me treat it as if it was my own. As soon as I arrived in Davis I felt at home and comfortable staying with them. My room was spacious with plenty of storage. This goes for the shared bathroom that was always clean and comfortable to use. The kitchen area was shared. It is very spacious and there were never any issues if more than one person was cooking at one time. There are plenty of different appliances (oven, grill, microwave and stove) available to use. The fridge and freezer were large and I had more than enough room to store my food. From the minute we arrived in Dave and Robbie's house we were given all of the help we needed. Dave assisted us with organising our phone plans and even brought us on a tour around Davis and the UC Davis campus. Dave and Robbie gave us plenty of information about Davis and had all of the details we would need to know about the house printed out for us, which was very helpful. Dave and Robbie were kind enough to allow us to bring our friends over to the house whenever we wanted. They also hosted multiple dinner parties for our friends, which we greatly appreciated as it allowed us time to bond with our new friends. It was also lovely to spend time getting to know Dave and Robbie during these occasions. We also had access to a room upstairs with a tv and gym equipment, which was great to use to relax after a long day in college. My favourite part of the house was the pool! I swam everyday once the weather got warmer. It was an amazing addition to my stay. I took the bus to college everyday, which is very quick and the bus stop is only five minutes from the house. The house is located close to a shopping area with pharmacies and grocery stores, as well as food places. I had a great experience in Davis and I truly believe a big part of it was because I felt so comfortable staying with Dave and Robbie. I had never lived away from home before, so I was apprehensive. To say I was happy and comfortable there would be an understatement. Dave and Robbie made me feel welcome in their home from day one and they were always there to have a chat or give us support. It was very comforting to know that there was always someone downstairs to talk to. I think any international student would be lucky to stay with Dave and Robbie while studying at UC Davis.
I am an Aerospace Engineering student from India. I had come to UC Davis on an exchange program for Fall Semester 2023 during my undergraduate study. I would highly recommend this place. During my semester-long exchange program at UC Davis, I found the environment at their home to be incredibly conducive to studying. David and Robbie, my hosts, were very generous and supportive individuals. They not only assisted whenever I needed it but David also took the time to teach me the basics of cooking, which was immensely helpful. I feel fortunate to have stayed in their home, where my spacious upstairs room offered a delightful view of the street. Additionally, having access to a recreational room with a treadmill allowed me to maintain an active lifestyle. Overall, my experience at UC Davis was nothing short of amazing, thanks to my stay at 1129, Fordham Drive.
I'm an exchange student from China attending 2024 UC Davis law school program. I stay in Murphy's house from January to May 2024, and it was one of the greatest time I have ever had in my life. I highly recommend Murphy's house for the following reasons: 1. The house is so wonderful that it has everything you want: cozy bedroom, clean bathroom, relaxing recreation room, laundry and my favorite parts - kitchen and yard. You can find everything you want in the kitchen and cook your own cuisine! Being able to use all the cookers and dishes made my life much more easier and I really enjoyed making cuisine in the kitchen! The yard is absolutely a small "Central Park", I always spend a whole afternoon in the yard, feeling relaxed and refreshed. While I am typing right now, I still miss the beautiful scene there... 2. David and Robbie are so caring and supportive that they offered me help every time I have trouble. At the same time, you will feel free and independent in this house - they will let you feel that this is your home as well! You will never feel uneasy or stressed for staying in other's house- for me, I felt like I was living in my own home for that 5 months! 3. The location is pretty good. 15 min ride to King hall. 5 min ride to three main grocery stores - Trader Joe's, Safeway, and Savemart. Bus stop is just 5 min walk from the house. Flixbus (which can take you to other cities) stop is nearby as well. 4. All in all, I would like to recommend this house from the bottom of my heart - it was the wisest choice I have made for my UC Davis trip. In these lonely, home-sick days, Murphy's house is the biggest comfort for my heart.

- From January to May 2024 I did an exchange program at UC Davis School of Law from Denmark. During this time I stayed with Dave and Robbie. I throughly enjoyed my stay at their place. First of all, Dave and Robbie are the most helpful and welcoming people. Even before I arrived, they helped with getting to their place and provided information about transportation and the city of Davis in general. As soon as I arrived I immidiately felt at home because of their warm beings. They alwas say that they "share their home with us" which is spot on. You have the upper floor to yourself (usually shared with other students), and you can use their kitchen and kitchen appliances as if it was your own. It truly felt like home, very chill and down to earth. The house itself is big and spacious, and has a lovely garden in which me and the students spend a lot of time in. It is located a 10 minute bike ride from Davis Campus and in close vicinity to super markets. I can only recommend to stay with Dave and Robbie - you will not regret it! I am so glad that I stayed there and shared their home with them.
- I had a great time living with David and Robbie and two other students. The house is big and very convenient. David and Robbie are very helpful and welcoming. I would recommend living with them. The rooms are big and furnished. The bathroom is in good condition and very cosy.
