The sailmaker, Samuel J. Albury, made and repaired Sails during the late 1800's to the early 1900's from his home and workshop located at 327 Margaret Street.

His home was one of the original homes of Key West. Built by ship builders from
Cypress and Dade County Pine, the home is of Classic Revival Form boasting of a fresh water well and close proximity to the harbor.

The waterfront at that time reached almost to Margaret St. and James street. On that beach the new or repaired sails where often stretched and laid to dry.
Shrimp boats and turtle crawls were plentiful.

Under the loving care of its present steward, The Sailmaker's House is a charming home today as it was then.
