Medford, Mass.—Tufts Reaches Maximum Capacity for On-Campus Housing
A steady increase in freshman class size and transfer students has led to a housing shortage at Tufts University. There are currently only 12 available beds out of 3,000 in on campus housing units, most of which are in double occupancy rooms.
Athens, Ga.—RREEF Property Trust Acquires The Flats at Carrs Hill
RREEF Property Trust, Inc. announced the acquisition of a Class-A, 138-unit, 316-bed student living community serving students of the University of Georgia. The Athens complex known as “The Flats and Carrs Hill” is located less than a mile from Sanford football stadium and cost RREEF $27.0 million.
Columbia, SC—University of South Carolina Seeks Private Developer for Housing Overhaul
The University of South Carolina announced plans to transform the south side of campus into a new student housing village. The village will include a pair of high rises and replace four current residence halls. USC is still seeking a private company for the construction and management of these new facilities.
London, UK—Wetherell Reaches New Level of Luxury with Park Lane Student Flats
Wetherell of London claims to be offering London’s most expensive student accommodations in the renovated Fountain House, designed in 1938 by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott (designer of the iconic red telephone booth). The 1,600 to 2,000 square feet apartments are being marketed primarily to wealthy foreign exchange students known to flock to the capital for their degrees. A three-bedroom flat rents for £252,000 per year.
San Marcos, Texas—University Springs Development Acquired by Alex Brown Realty, Inc.
Alex Brown Realty and Asset Campus Housing have announced their acquisition of a 488-bed student housing property servicing Texas State University currently known as University Springs. Financed by a first mortgage loan from Amegy Bank, this acquisition will be rebranded as The Reserve at West Avenue following extensive upgrades and repairs.
Hanceville, Ala.—City Council Considers Student Housing as Solution for Struggling Downtown
City officials in Hanceville, are considering plans to reinvigorate the dilapidated downtown district by converting some of the historic buildings into student lofts. The apartments would serve students of Wallace State Community College.
Cincinnati—Student Government Launches App to Help Find Roommates in Off-Campus Housing
In development since 2014, the student government sponsored app released on Thursday enables University of Cincinnati students to perform roommate searches as they look for off campus housing. The UC student government began construction on the app due to housing shortages on campus.
Providence, R.I.—Gilbane Building Declared Official Partner of Corvias Campus Living
This week Corvias Campus Living announced a new partnership with Gilbane Building Co. for its upcoming and future student housing developments. Gilbane has been responsible for approximately $13 billion worth of higher education projects on 55 campuses in 40 states.
Atlanta—Peak Campus Promotes Two, Hires One in Key Staffing Change
Peak Campus announced three strategic staffing changes this week. Former Greystar marketing manager, Marie Filippone, was hired as director of marketing. Within the company, Monica Morgan was promoted to director of sales and leasing, and Amy Bonnell was promoted to director of training.
