It doesn’t matter if you live alone or have five roommates, bugs are a hard to avoid problem.
That being said, it is possible to completely avoid a bug problem altogether if you’re smart and careful. There’s more to avoiding bugs then just closing the bag of chips after you’re done eating.
You can start with little things,
- Take the trash out weekly AT LEAST. Don’t let your garbage sit and linger in the garbage pail.
- Put your dirty dishes in the sink. Try to wash them as quickly as possible, it doesn’t have to be right away.
If you find yourself still suffering from a bug issue, you can up your game by doing things like,
- Using chip clips. Make sure that once a bag is opened, it is closed securely to avoid any creepy crawlers.
- Vacuum weekly. There could be a crumb problem on your floor that is attracting bugs.
- Wipe your counters down. Try to do so after every time you cook. This will stop there from being a build up of leftover crumbs and keep the kitchen clean.
If you’ve tried all of these tips and are STILL suffering from a bug problem, it’s time for some serious help. Try,
- Calling an exterminator or your apartment maintenance and explaining the situation.
- Keep bug killer handy. You might not want to use it, but sometimes you have no choice.
You’re allowed to bug out when faced with an insect problem. However, before you blame your apartment, look at how you keep your unit. Do you make an environment where bugs feel welcome or even invited?
