Transportation can be one of the biggest expenses and hassles in college. Between paying high parking fees and wasting time circling campus to find an available spot, finding different transportation methods can help you save money and time. Not only will the extra walk to and from the bus stop help ward off the freshman fifteen, but there are other benefits to riding the bus, too:
Taking the Bus
It’s normally free. Most cities allow students free access to public transportation by showing their student ID card.
There is room for your bike. If you attend a large school where you will need your bike to get from class-to-class once you arrive on campus, not to worry. Most buses have racks in the front to easily transport bicycles.
You can use this time on the bus to study. With your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road, it can be distracting to concentrate on your upcoming English essay. However, when someone else is in the driver’s seat, you can use the time to and from your destination to get in a little extra schoolwork.
Get to know your neighborhood. Riding the bus is also a wonderful way for you to learn what is located around you. Sometimes interesting restaurants and unique shops can be more easily noticed from the window of a different vantage point.
Help the environment. Riding the bus also means more cars off the roads, which is helpful to the environment. By downloading your area’s transit system App, it is easier than ever to find convenient routes, see when the next bus will be arriving and get to your destination without any hassle.
Night transportation. The bus is also a great mode of transportation at night and is a much better option than taking a risk by driving under the influence.
