While some living situations in college allow for personal bathrooms, others do not. For those of you sharing a bathroom here are a few things to keep in mind.
- Bring a towel with you while you shower. Nothing is more awkward than having to ask your roommate to bring you a towel while you stand there naked and wet. Save everyone from an uncomfortable situation and bring a towel.
- If your shower area doesn’t have any, invest in some over the door hooks to keep your towels off the floor and away from the water.
- Use your own shampoo and conditioner. No two heads of hair are the same. Supply your own products and avoid using your roommates. Think of it as sharing face wash, you don’t.
- KNOCK. If the door is closed always knock. It doesn’t matter if you think it’s empty it’s better to be safe.
- Try to plan your shower time. If your roommate showers every day at 9 am then try to aim for 10 am or 8 am to avoid a line.
- Pitch in to clean. Bathrooms get messy. It’s not fair to make one person always clean the bathroom, so make it a group effort. If everyone pitches in then it will go a lot faster.
Sharing a bathroom takes some getting used too. It can be a great experience in personal space and scheduling. Don’t let the bad image sharing a bathroom has get the best of you.
