If you’ve gone rug hunting you’ve probably noticed that they’re actually pretty expensive.
You’ve also most likely wondered why they cost so much more money than you would think. Hopefully, this article can help you understand why you would have to shell out all that money for a rug.
Firstly, they tend to be made out of expensive materials. While a wool sweater might not break the bank, a wool rug will put more of a hole in your pocket. Wool is a high-quality material that will keep the color and pattern for a long time. It will also be softer than a less natural material. If you’re itching to splurge on a rug this would probably be the best way to go.
Silk is also a common and expensive material in rugs. But since it has to be cleaned pretty often as well it may not be the best choice for your college apartment. There are also less expensive synthetic materials for you to choose from, such as nylon or polyester.
You would also have to factor in who made it or where it came from. A homemade rug would be more expensive than one from a factory. Rugs can be time-consuming, so you should expect that to be reflected in the price. And if they come from far away it can cost a great deal of money to ship them to where you are.
Of course, if you just want a rug so you don’t have to deal with hardwood or tile floor rather than for aesthetic purposes, plain rugs tend to be cheaper. They may still be more than you would like to pay, but it’s better than shelling out upwards of thousands of dollars just for the feeling of carpet.
