In college a party can start up pretty easily. All it really takes is more than one person and before you know it, it’s party time, with the right party foods your guests will leave the party smiling.
If you and your roommates want to become the most popular group in the complex, consider throwing a party for your neighbors. A housewarming or “block” party can be the perfect way to break the ice in your new apartment community.
Party Food Recipes
- Chips and Dip. Everyone loves chips and dip. Make it special by putting the chips in a bowl sporting your school’s colors. Your guests will be amazed. If you really want to blow them away, put the dip in a separate bowl with a spoon and offer snack plates.
- Wienies in Barbecue Sauce. You’ve had them at parties your parents have hosted, and you probably never knew that making wienies in barbecue sauce is as easy as buying the already cooked cocktail wienies in a package and pouring a jar of barbecue sauce over them. Heat in a sauce pan on the stove or in the microwave, and serve with toothpicks. Yum!
- Sub Sandwiches. You don’t have to go to the sandwich shop for great subs. Buy a couple loaves of French bread from the bakery department of your favorite grocer. Buy a couple of packages of lunch meat or a pound of meat from the deli counter, buy some cheese slices, a tomato, pickles and other veggies. Slice the bread down the center, and make up a couple foot long subs by layering the ingredients on one half of the bread and covering them with the other. The subs can be sliced into small snack-size portions for your guests and customized with mayo, mustard and other condiments you serve along side them.
- Fruit Kabobs. Pick up some skewers at the second hand store and use them to thread grapes, cut melon, strawberries, apple slices and other fruits for fruit kabobs. Add a marshmallow or two for fun, and serve them with a side of melted chocolate. Delicious!
- Pigs in a blanket. This is a classic party staple that is easy to make and can serve a large amount of people. Simply purchase frozen croissant dough at your local grocer (biscuit dough works as well, but croissant dough seems to fit around the hot dog snugly). Then, cut the croissant dough into triangular shapes and wrap the dough around a small piece of hot dog or cocktail weenie. Place in the oven and go back to your party until the dough is golden brown and enjoy!

Great post. When it comes to student living, a party is a great way to introduce yourself college living.
Parties are really fun to throw with your roommates, especially in your off campus apartment! Student living is just as much about the experience as it is about the studying – and no college student will say “no” to free food! 😉
