If your nest is feeling a little empty these days and you aren’t quite sure what Santa should bring for the kids this year, check out our guide for parents: your student’s apartment Christmas list.
Your baby isn’t a baby anymore, so it’s time to welcome him into adulthood by purchasing him some items that will make life in that apartment more bearable. Let’s be honest. If you give him cash, it’s probably going to fund the next party or eventually disappear on late night pizza and energy drinks.
Here are some ideas for Christmas gifts that will be much appreciated by your starving college kid, even if they don’t ask Santa for them.
Paper Products
It stinks to think that we literally flush our money down the toilet when we purchase toilet paper, but it’s a fact of life. Your child would love to have money to spend on other things because the bathroom is already stocked with a supply of toilet paper. You could even splurge on the 2-ply since we’re sure he probably spends as little money as possible on the discount store brand. Don’t forget paper towels too!
Cleaning Supplies
Another thing college students don’t want to spend their money on is products that they will rinse down the drain. Purchase a large bucket and turn it into a gift basket full of dish soap, laundry soap, bathroom cleaner, and sponges. You might be lucky enough to stay in a clean apartment when you visit during parents’ weekend.
Stocked Cabinets
You probably already give your child groceries every time you see him. When you visit your son, you sneak a few bags of his favorite treats. When your daughter comes home, you send her back with baked goodies. Just always remember this: college kids love to eat. You can never provide them with too much food. They have friends, and those friends will help eat it. Imagine the look of pure excitement when your child opens the cabinets and finds them full of snacks. Again, you have saved your child from spending his or her money on disposable items.
Once your student has graduated from college (with honors, of course), Santa can help furnish a new living space with fresh linens, quality furniture that will last, and fancy kitchen gadgets. For now, we think they will appreciate the items that they desperately need, but don’t want to spend their own money on and probably wouldn’t ask for.
What else does your student need that you’re sure they won’t think of themselves?
