Having to use the in-building laundry at your apartment can seem frustrating.
Sharing a laundry room with your entire building definitely won’t be at the top of the list of things you want to do, but you have to anyway. Hopefully, these tips will be able to help you make it a little more manageable.
One tip is to figure out a time when not many other people will be doing their laundry. If you don’t have classes during the day that would definitely be a good time. Anytime during the week should usually see pretty light traffic. The worst time would be on the weekends. That’s when everyone has time off and is going to be scrambling to find an empty washing machine. So unless you want to wait around all day for an empty machine, you should consider going earlier in the week.
You’ll also want to make sure not to forget about your laundry. Some apartment might have a policy about what to do with unattended laundry that wouldn’t be in your favor. If you’re worried that you would forget to go back and deal with your laundry you might even consider staying with it. Or if you’re too busy to stay it would be a good idea to leave yourself a timer so you know when to go deal with your laundry.
Another tip would be that if you find something wrong with a machine you’ll want to let maintenance know so they can deal with it. Even if they can’t deal with it right away they’ll have to put up an ‘out of order’ sign. You also wouldn’t want someone to have to deal with loading all of their clothes just for the washing machine to not work. If you can make laundry more convenient for someone else you definitely should.
