College apartments complexes can have everything from tanning beds to lazy rivers.
But, one thing some properties lack is a big closet area. Yes, you can get creative with space and use storage bins or rolling rack but if you don’t want to, then what?
This is where a minimalist wardrobe comes into play. It may seem crazy to even suggest something like this to a college student when themed parties and events appear every weekend but it’s possible to pull it off.
Minimalism is a growing trend in the design sphere. The stick to the basics attitude mixed with a good fashion sense can carry any college student through college without a giant wardrobe.
Start by breaking your closet into seasons. Tank tops can stay with summer and oversized cardigans or jackets can find a home in the winter pile.
Do this with the rest of your clothing.
Then take a step back and look at both piles. Do they look too big? Are you seeing clothes you had no idea you owned? Now think of your everyday activities. Do you go to the gym every day? If so take out your 7 favorite gym bottoms and 7 favorite tops. Throw in 2 extra sets just in case. Now look at what’s left from your gym clothes, do you need it? If not, put it in a bag to donate.
Now, look at your pants, shorts, skirts and any other bottoms you may have. What do you wear? And more importantly, what fits? Anything you haven’t worn recently and anything that doesn’t fit right should be donated. Don’t waste space because you’re afraid to declutter.
Take a break and a deep breath. You’re doing fine.
Follow this pattern with the rest of your clothes, shoes, bathing suits etc., what do you actually wear? What do you actually like?
Filling your closet with clothes you’ll never wear because you’re afraid of getting rid of them is not the answer. Focus on what makes you feel good. Minimalism can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Take some time to declutter your closet and enjoy a clean, fashionable and basic wardrobe. Plus donating all of your clothes will mean that someone else will get to enjoy them.
