Coffee tables are an incredibly useful piece of furniture to have when you have a limited amount of furniture that will fit in your apartment.
They are low, do not take up too much space, and can be moved around without much difficulty. They also provide enough space on the surface to leave any belongings that you would need outside of your bedroom. Some coffee tables even have an extra space underneath to allow for more things to be stored. Aside from coffee tables providing storage and making your apartment look good, they also have other uses.
You can use it as a kitchen table by simply laying a mat on top of it for protection. It would allow you to sit comfortably in your living room and to rest your food and drink down while you eat. Considering most coffee tables can be quite close to the floor, it could be helpful to use pillows or couch cushions in order to allow you to sit on the floor without any discomfort. If your coffee table is a little higher but still too low for the sofa, you can also try short stools to sit on while you eat.
Another way you can use your coffee table is as a study space.
Going back to what I said about coffee tables providing storage, you can rest your books, laptop, and other school supplies on the table and leave them in the corner for whenever you need it. When studying, sitting on the floor with cushions or a low stool is once again an option. You can also use textbooks to lift your laptop to eye-level so that you may sit on the sofa. Before exams, the coffee table could be cleared for you to spread out flash cards and sticky notes to help keep yourself organized in your studying.
Within a small apartment and a budget, a coffee table may end up being a very good investment if you use it wisely.
