Guilford County is the third-most populated county in North Carolina, with cityscapes, eclectic shops, delicious food, and manicured parks and trails, there’s a good reason why.
The maintenance they put into their outdoor locations leaves me in awe and wonder for their care and the county’s natural beauty.
While there are many local places to run outside in Guilford County, four of them make the list of my absolute favorites!

Reedy Fork Ranch Neighborhood
Right as you enter Guilford County from the North is where my husband and I bought our first home, only a few months ago. We are nestled right in front of a nice, residential development, which remains quite peaceful. It’s very large and away from the main roads, making it the perfect spot for an outdoor run. I like to run through it 2 or 3 times, looking around my neighbor’s homes and the additional homes that are still being built. I learn about who takes care of their yards, which neighbors have children and which ones have dogs, as well as ideas for what to do around my own home.

Bryan Park and Golf Course in Browns Summit
Not far at all from my house, actually only 2 miles away, is a nice park and golf course that sits and encircles Lake Townsend. The park consists of a few trails as well, making it a nice space for an outdoor nature run! Since the scenery is heavy, it also makes for a mostly-shady run.

Guilford Courthouse Military Park
Between Summerfield and Greensboro, on New Garden Road, lies the story of our county’s battle history. Until a couple of years ago, I figured this park was used for the sole purpose of showcasing Guilford’s last battle, but my (now) husband finally took me here as part of a surprise (a day I thought he would propose and I was mortifyingly wrong), and it turned out to be so much more than historic. It was beautiful, neatly kept, quiet and secluded. I began joining many other humans by the occasional run here.

The Arboretum
Last, but not least, is The Arboretum. Just past Greensboro’s busy Friendly Shopping Center, you can see this beauty following alongside the highway, occasionally secluded from view by shrubbery and trees. Beautiful gardens and bridges adorn this area, while fountains and bushes, clipped into the shapes of butterflies, fill its center. Although baseball games usually take up one end of the Arboretum’s park, the rest is quiet and peaceful as you run along the curving paths and under the wisteria-coated trellis. My favorite part of this area is the hidden trail that leads to a small look-over, above the butterfly-shaped hedges.
What are some of your favorite places for a run?
