The first semester is over and now it’s time to finally go home and take a break from college, but not so fast.
Once you pack your bags, you’re ready to go back home as soon as possible, but there is a way you should leave your apartment. You shouldn’t leave it looking like you’re still there over the break because that’s just not right. This is what you should do before you leave:
Throw away the food in the refrigerator
You’re going to be gone for a couple of weeks, while you are gone the food will be expiring and by the time you come back, it can be smelly. Do yourself a favor and just throw it out before you leave. Don’t take the chance of trying to eat something you cooked before you left when you come back.
Clean your room
Cleaning your room means doing laundry, vacuuming, wiping things down, and making your bed. When you come back to your apartment it will be a new year and you shouldn’t want to have to clean up a messy room from the old year. Trust me, you’re just going to want to relax and get prepared for the next semester.
Unplug electronics
Anything that is plugged in can now become unplugged because you won’t be in your apartment to use it. For those who may not know, when you leave a cord plugged in an outlet, it uses electricity even if the thing the cord goes to is off. This will keep your electricity bill from going up a little while you are gone. Plus, it’s just safe to have everything unplugged.
Secure your valuables
Things that you love the most but you aren’t taking back home with you should be put away in a spot that isn’t easy to find. Not that someone is going to steal it, but just in case, especially if you have roommates that you don’t know and they are staying for the break. You can do this or you can just lock the door to your room.
Have a nice break and happy holidays!
