You’ve always been the kind of person to go to parties but never host one, and it’s not
because you don’t like hosting.
You think your apartment is simply too small to host a
party that people will enjoy. It might come as a surprise, but you can still host an epic
party in your apartment.
So, start sending out the invites and consider following some of
these tips for hosting in a small apartment.
1. Maximize the space you have.
One of the most important things to remember when throwing a party despite the size of
the venue is to make room for the guests. That doesn’t mean you have to limit your
guests to a handful of people. Work with the space you have. If possible, push furniture
up against the wall to create more space for moving around. Also, consider storing
unnecessary items in your bedroom for the duration of the party.
2. Spread things out.
If you have a small apartment, you likely have a small kitchen too. It’s hard enough
moving around in there with a party of one let alone with guests. Don’t confine the food
and drinks to the kitchen. Arrange appetizers on the coffee table and drinks in the dining
room to avoid a traffic jam at the kitchen entrance. Also, consider serving simple foods
that don’t require a lot of silverware. That way you can save more space and make
cleanup easier too.
3. Don’t let your apartment become an oven.
We all know what happens when you mix a large group of people with a small space.
There will be a lot of body heat, so avoid doing things that will make it worse. Yes,
winter is coming, but don’t crank up the heat. Also, try to remember to turn off all kitchen
appliances before guests arrive. You can also offer to hang up your guests’ coats in the
closet.
4. Find creative ways to make seats.
Most people in small apartments don’t have fifty spare chairs lying around, so you’ll
have to find alternative ways to prepare seating arrangements. The easiest way would
be to invest in some foldable chairs, but if you’re tight on cash or don’t have a place to
store the chairs after the party ends, there are other solutions. You could turn just about
anything into a seat—an exercise ball, a stool, or a side table. Or if you’re comfortable
enough, you could ask your closest friends to bring a couple chairs with them when they
come to your party.
Hosting in a small apartment isn’t impossible. Just remember to maximize the space
you have, and you’ll be able to host a great party.
After all, your guests aren’t coming for
your apartment; they’re coming because they know you’ll be an excellent host.
