During the holiday season, you may discover that a new apartment comes with you having to host a holiday party.
Or at least, you may have to bring something to a friend’s party. If you don’t have a lot of experience cooking this may be a little intimidating, but here are some tips to help you out.
Chips and dip is an easy favorite. You can make your own hummus by blending chickpeas, garlic and other seasonings in a food processor. You could always buy some chips at the store or you could fry up some potatoes or tortillas. It’s surprising how you can impress your friends with something as simple as homemade chips and dip.
If chickpeas aren’t your thing you may prefer a cheese dip. You can whip up some ricotta cheese with some salt and thyme and jam on the side. You can make pimento cheese with some cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, pimentos and some cayenne.
Devilled eggs are another simple dish for beginners. All you have to do is boil some eggs and separate out the yolks. You mix the yolks together with mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar and anything else you would want in your mixture. Then you spoon the mixture back into the egg whites and top them with some paprika and chives.
There’s also a lot to do with chocolate if you want to bring along dessert. You can make your own chocolate dipped fruit. All you have to do is melt some chocolate in the microwave or double-boiler and dip whatever you want into it. And then you’ll want to refrigerate that until it sets. You also might want to take that melted chocolate and pour it into some popcorn, you can even throw in some bacon if you’re feeling adventurous.
