Having a dog in an apartment is always an interesting topic. Some people feel that the space is too small so it’s not fair to the pup. Others feel that with enough walks and outdoor time their dog will be happy no matter what.
Whatever you feel, finding the right apartment for your dog is a process.
Start by looking for complexes around good walking areas. Having an accessible walking path with places for your furry friend to go to the bathroom make life a lot easier.
Check out the neighborhood around the complex too. Are there walking trails near by? Do they even allow dogs?
Even if they do allow dogs, some places have breed and weight restrictions. Make sure to look into every aspect of their pet guidelines before you sign a lease.
Then look at square footage and layout. Just because an apartment is small doesn’t make it bad. An open floor plan can be better than an oddly shaped larger apartment.
Take everything into consideration.
How many floors are there? Will your dog be okay riding in an elevator? If your dog barks will the neighbors hear?
Don’t forget to consider your needs as well. There is always a middle ground. Maybe the unit isn’t THAT big but it’s close to campus and has great walking paths. It is possible to find a great apartment for you and your furry friend.
