Pumpkin Spice, tailgates, and new lease advertisements?
It happens every year that complexes start advertising for the next years tenants around the middle of fall semester.
Before you roll your eyes and complain that it’s way too early for this, it’s not.
Complexes near campus and other “hot” areas will fill up quickly. Either tenants who live there now want to stay or people who have wanted to live there will sign fast.
Don’t put off apartment hunting.
If you know where you want to live and you see them starting to advertise, then jump on it. Complexes usually do lowered rent the earlier in the year you sign. The longer you wait the more you’ll pay in most cases.
This doesn’t mean you have to cancel all of your weekend plans in the middle of September to start touring different places.
It means you should take a few minutes a day to check out the local listings and deals, to see if anything grabs your interest.
Find the place you want and your roommates second. If you lock in a great apartment in an amazing complex, then you can post it in a Facebook group or use word of mouth to find people to live with.
Also, utilize tools such as Facebook and word of mouth to make sure the complex you have your eye on is worth your time.
Waiting until spring to look will likely end with you either paying more than you could’ve for the same space or lose out on the space completely.
