Furnished apartments are all over college areas. They boast a full bedroom set, living room furniture and sometimes even a kitchen table.
It can seem awesome, and it makes the complex appear even more put together on the tour. You’ll fall in love with how amazing the staged apartment looks before you realize how much extra it will cost to make your own apartment look like that.
But it comes with a few downsides.
- Everyone’s apartment looks somewhat the same
- Visiting a neighbor is basically just seeing if they did anything different than you with the same few pieces
- You still have to buy furniture
- A mattress pad, coffee table, bar stools, both nightstands. These are just some of the things you may have to provide for your “furnished” apartment. This can add up.
- The furniture doesn’t have to be nice
- The complex said it would come furnished but, they have to furnish an entire complex. Don’t expect your couch to be the top of the line. It’ll do the job and look chic enough to go with any decor. What more do you need?
Just because it’s furnished, doesn’t mean you’ll save money in the long run. If you plan on living somewhere for 3+ years then it may be better to invest in some relatively cheap but nice furniture.
