Bed bugs are tiny, insects that can ruin almost anyone’s week. These brown insects feed on blood and hide in mattresses, box springs, and other household furniture.
The biggest sign you have an infestation is the bites themselves. Unlike flea and mosquito bites, bed bug bites turn into welts without a red dot in the center. Bites can occur on any visible skin.
Bed bugs can be a serious problem in the college apartment community because they are spread through used mattresses. Check for signs such as blood stains, bed bug droppings, and loose egg shells to confirm that you’re dealing with these tiny rascals.
Dealing with bed bugs?
Here is how to get rid of them
- Clean anything and everything with fabric (including clothing)
- Scrub your mattress and box spring down completely to make sure there are no eggs left
- Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Do this all over and then twice. Then make sure to throw away everything you vacuumed up in a sealed bag OUTSIDE.
- Get rid of any clutter around or near your bed. These things have legs and can move quickly. Don’t give them the option.
In the worst case scenario, you may have to just throw the mattress away and start over. Dealing with bed bugs isn’t a joke.
If you find yourself in this predicament you might want to call for backup help.
