One of the most frustrating things you have to deal with as a college student is parking.
If you struggle with finding a spot on campus, the last thing you’ll want to deal with is parking in your own apartment. Unfortunately, your own home may have limited parking.
A lot of apartment complexes will only allow tenants to use the parking lot, so that should be a big help. On the other hand, it’s not uncommon for friends or family to be visiting and take up spots, or even just someone from the university if you live near campus. If this starts to become an issue you may consider speaking to your landlord or someone who can do something about this problem.
You may also stay at an apartment with assigned parking. Most of the time this should free you of this problem, but someone could still park in the wrong spot. A first step to take would be to leave a note. There is a chance that someone accidentally parked in the wrong spot and it wouldn’t happen again.
If they continue to take your spot you may have to talk with this person, if it’s one of your neighbors. It could help to have a face to face talk with you for them to realize that they’re giving someone a hard time. If they continue to take your spot then it would be a good idea to go speak to someone else to solve the issue.
Of course, it’s also a good idea to remember to follow these rules yourself. It’s important to keep up with any rules your apartment has about parking. Even if you don’t like your assigned spot or you think it’s fine to have all of your friends come in separate cars, remember that you could be inconveniencing your neighbors.
