Creating a Productive Work-From-Home Space
Working from home is very convenient. But unfortunately, home is full of distractions, like family members, roommates, or a cute pet. It can be difficult to get work done at home when you have all those distractions surrounding you. In this article, we’ll discuss how to create a productive work from home space.
Have enough clear workspace
It’s hard to focus on work when your workspace is cluttered and chaotic. To create a workspace that encourages productivity, make sure it’s clean. You need to have enough clear space to place your laptop, books, or notebooks. Don’t just push items off to the side or drop things on the floor. Instead, put away the items you won’t actually need during your work session. For example, if you need to study for your English class, put your biology textbooks away on your bookshelf. When you have a clear, decluttered workspace, you will be much more productive as you work from home. If you need more workspace, consider buying a longer or bigger desk.
Upgrade the lighting in your workspace
You should sleep in a dark room, not do your work in one! In a brightly-lit room, you will be more awake, and more able to produce good work. You can add more light to your work area by buying brighter lightbulbs, buying a desk or floor lamp, or by positioning your desk closer to a window (natural light is a big plus!) It’s a good opportunity to brighten up your entire living space to make it more homey and welcoming. It sounds simple, but better lighting will definitely help keep you awake as you work. Upgrading your lighting is a great way to create a more productive work from home space.
Invest in a comfy chair
As you work from home, you’ll likely be spending many hours sitting on your desk chair. This means you’ll need a comfy, ergonomic desk chair that will support your spine. (After all, nothing ruins a productive work session like an uncomfortable desk chair!) Although a high-quality, ergonomic desk chair can be pricey, it’s worth the investment if you plan to be working from home for a while. Your back will thank you when it gets to rest on a good chair. For that reason, if you want to create a productive work from home environment, invest in a good desk chair.
Designate an area for your devices
If your phone sits next to you as you work, it will be too easy to get distracted by all the notifications that come in. For that reason, you should designate a specific area for the devices you are not using during your work session. Ideally, this area would be near an outlet so you can charge your devices as you work. For example, you could keep your phone and tablet on the other side of your room, next to an outlet. You could even build a little shelf on top of the outlet to rest your phone on while it is charging, and a bigger one to support your tablet. To create a productive work from home area, designate a specific area, away from your workspace, for your devices.
Personalize your space
Another way to have your work from home space encourage productivity is to personalize your space. Personally, I enjoy my workspace much more when it is personalized, and it makes me feel more motivated to do my work. You can personalize your space by hanging up pictures or banners with inspirational messages. You can even add some accessories that better match your decorating style. For example, you can add a new desk lamp that goes well with your desk. When you have a personalized space, you will be more excited and motivated to work. Clearly, personalizing your space is a great way to build a productive work from home environment.
Add plants
Finally, one of the best ways to cultivate a work from home environment is to add plants. Plants add a vibrancy and life to the room, since they are so bright, colorful, and beautiful. Having this life and brightness will inspire you to work.
If you are not particularly good at taking care of plants but still want to have them, there are still some you can have. For example, you can buy a couple of fake plants. Additionally, you could even get plants that don’t require much care, like succulents or a small cactus. They will be beautiful and you won’t need to water them often. Plants are a great way to cultivate a productive work from home environment.
Despite all the distractions surrounding you at home, you can still concentrate on your work by creating a productive work from home space. If you follow these tips, you will cultivate an environment that promotes concentration and productivity.
