Defined by Medical News Today, Anxiety is “general term for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying.”
Anxiety as a whole can be broken up into different sectors with each affecting the individual in a particular way. The stress of moving to college combined with a new environment, people and area can serve as a huge trigger for all forms of anxiety.
There are a few homeopathic ways to combat your anxiety in your new apartment and create a more relaxing environment.
- Drink Chamomile Tea. Chamomile contains apigenin and luteolin, which have both been linked in studies to lower levels of anxiety.
- Breathe in Lavender. Wax Melting, Air fresheners, Wall Flowers and other items that share smells are a great way to fill your apartment with this scent. Doctor Jeremy Appleton said, “ Lavender oil olfaction has been shown to decrease anxiety, as measured by the Hamilton rating scale,51 and can increase mood scores.”
- Make Yoga a part of your routine. Taking a few moments out of each day to catch your breath and relax can make a world of difference. A lot of people find that Yoga helps their anxiety best if performed right before bed or immediately when they wake up.
- Make yourself comfortable. That feeling of anxiousness that stems from change can be lessened the more comfortable you get. Reach out to your complex about an early move-in date to be sure that you have the time you need to feel safe.
Having anxiety does not define who you are as a person or college student. Take time everyday to focus on who you are and how you feel.
Your mental health always comes first.
