College is all about new experiences. New learning, new environment, new people and finding yourself at the odd age of being an adult but not being quite sure how to be an adult.
College apartments are a big part of this process. For most people, it’s the first time being solely dependent on yourself and not being controlled by any higher authority (well, besides your landlord, of course). Because of this, some pretty great and terrible things can happen in this realm of discovery you’ve encountered.
Important Aspects of College Apartment Living
- Roommates are potentially great assets or a terrible pain to deal with. For example, your roommate might let you borrow their clothes or their hair products. On the other end, they might also eat all of your food and leave you with an empty box of cookies without even saying a word to you.
- Sometimes, things break and it’s usually at the most inconvenient of times. Is it 90 degrees outside? Of course the air conditioner will break. Are you in the middle of the biggest snowstorm of the decade? The heater will definitely stop working for no apparent reason. It’s all about making sure you have enough handheld fans and mountains of blankets ready for these occasions.
- This is most likely the most freedom you’ve had in your entire life. Do you want to walk around without pants on? Go ahead. Although your roommate might not appreciate it. Do you want to stay in your bed for the entire Sunday in a nest of pillows? Why not? No one is going to know and there’s a whole series of that television show you need to watch.
College is a crazy, scary and wonderful place. It’s all in what you make of it. Your college apartment is all about what you make of it, too. There are some stress-wrecking things that can happen, but it’s all about looking for the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. Have any crazy college apartment tales?
