Apartment living should include pest control, performed routinely by the apartment management.
To be sure you are living pest-free, you can also take some steps to preventing these irritating critters in the first place, including:
- Sanitation
- Organization
- Sealing
- Dryness
Sanitation
The most important thing in bug prevention is to maintain a clean environment. This means taking out the trash routinely, making sure dirty dishes are not left out, sweeping the floors and tables of crumbs, and if you have a pet, be sure their food is not left out. Routine cleaning will be the first step in bug prevention.
Organization
Critters, bugs, all of these pests like places to hide. Therefore, if you have clutter everywhere, it makes happy little homes for bugs! Be sure to keep your things nice and organized, and your apartment space clutter-free.
Sealing
No matter what you do, chances are bugs can always find a way to your apartment, but you want to make that difficult for them. Seal the base of your pipes in your kitchen and bathroom sinks.
Doors and windows that are not fully sealed can make an easy-entry for bugs to creep into. If you can see light through a crack in the door or window, make sure you get that sealed up!
Dryness
Many bugs like damp areas and are attracted to areas that contain standing water. Keep your apartment dry and free from damp areas by making sure your pipes are not leaking, cleaning up spills, and ensuring any houseplants do not have standing water in them.
If ever you find yourself with a bug problem, call your apartment maintenance immediately and request them to attend to it as soon as possible.
