There has always been something alluring about a giant apartment. A staple on any sitcom, the giant apartment seems amazing. Until you realize how much work it is.
As a student, your free time is limited and so are your belongings. Every additional square inch is another place to clean or fill with decorations. This is the one point in your life where the location may beat out the size.
I’m not saying rent a closet in your campus library and call it home but you also don’t need to furnish an entire town home your freshman year. Chances are that the apartments closer to campus and more reasonable will not be huge anyway, so if you have to trade size for a location I say go for it.
You do not need a giant apartment. Like Goldilocks, you need an apartment that’s just right. If your clothes fit, you can sit at a desk and study and the walls aren’t suffocating you then I’d say it’s a good fit. Trust me when I say that you’ll barely be inside anyway.
Between class, studying, work (if you have a job) and trying to carry a social life, a giant apartment is the last thing you want to start worrying about. Instead, find a great place that comes with a ton of extras to make up for size. A small room is a tiny price to pay for a great location and amazing amenities.
Have you ever heard someone complain about having a fitness center that was too large?
I’ll answer for you, it’s a no.
Enjoy your college life and spend time outside of your place, you have forever to decorate a house and clean every square inch.
