Eventually, we all like to follow the trends.
What was it with unicorns this past year? Everywhere you turned they seemed to be #trending and they were a popular Halloween costume! While unicorns and face filters hit it big in 2017, textures and patterns made a large appearance in the year’s home decor.
Decorating apartments can be somewhat tricky. While smaller areas and rules may keep you from painting or hanging too many items on your walls, there are some great ways to decorate your apartment this year and create a trendy space for 2018.
Unique Headboards
The fancy fabric and leather headboards are beautiful, but they can be expensive and very large. Instead, try making your own luxury headboard. Pallet headboards are super easy, but if that’s still too large, try to find a pair of unique curtains and pull them to each side of the wall. As a tie to hold them back, think of using strands of pearls or something metallic and bold.
Colorful Creations
Apartments are known to have plenty of neutral colors throughout. To brighten things up, add pops of vivid color. You can do this through statement pieces, such as a large vase, or a colorful accent chair. The new trend seems to be jewel tones or Zen-like colors such as yellow and sage.
Prepare Your Green Thumb
Natural is becoming a trend for the New Year and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t! Having real plants in your home is not only good for your air, but it creates a sense of peace and loveliness that you can’t mimic artificially. Add some green plants with unique, cool patterned leaves and keep a vase of fresh flowers in light, nude colors in the middle of the room.
Metallic Mirrors
Mirrors make space look larger, therefore they are a great tool to use in an apartment. Since metals are making a large appearance for 2018, especially bronze, get a mirror with a metallic frame to place in your space. Use that for your mirror selfie on Instagram!
Storage Matters
Apartments can have limited storage, so purchasing a piece that offers more room to store things in your space is a good idea. This year, we are looking at shapely pieces that make a statement. Pick something unique and bold for high versatility.
DIY Items
Imperfections are finally becoming more acceptable. This year we see beauty in our imperfect creations by hand-painting and crafting our household items. Try building your own end table or painting some dishes. It should be a piece that is about you and will be a topic of conversation for your guests.
