Every apartment tour is designed to make you fall in love.
The model will be perfectly decorated, with all spaces clean. And, every amenity they offer will sparkle.
Before you get swept up into the tour and sign, STOP.
Tell the complex, that you loved everything but need a night to sleep on it and then head straight to google. Google the complex from floor to ceiling. Post in Facebook groups from your school and ask around.
The answers you find may surprise you.
The glistening pool shown to you on the tour could be constantly closed. The fitness center could be filled with faulty equipment. And that beautifully decorated apartment could be a sham.
Not only will asking the past or current renters about a complex give you more insight into the facility but it will give you HONEST insight. People won’t lie when you ask if they love where they live. Either they love it or they hate it.
Also, try to find out how many people resign every year. This is a huge tell to see if the complex is as nice as it seems.
Not all apartment complex tours are a facade, some complexes really are that good. But, you’ll never regret double checking to make sure.
Signing a lease is a big deal. It’s a legal contract that binds you to the complex for a designated amount of time.
Don’t forget that this is also where you’re going to live, so you want it to be nice.
There are no stupid questions, so ask away.
