Edible and affordable plants can add life and a bit of levity to small spaces and even brighten your mood.
While apartment living is not always conducive to growing large gardens or tall fruit trees, it can be the decorating solution for functional, low-maintenance plants that can add color and calm to your apartment space. Herbs such as basil, mint, thyme, parsley and sage not only require little water and low lighting, but they are also perfect for adding taste to your drinks and dishes. Add a sprig of parsley and some thyme to your pasta sauce or rub rosemary and sage on your chicken for extra flavor. You can even muddle mint into your ginger ale or make your own pesto with homegrown basil.
Not only that, but the smell of lavender and peppermint have been proven to calm your mind and relax your body. Lavender even has anti-inflammatory properties. Place both in a space set aside for studying to help give you increased clarity.
Furthermore, succulents, such as jade, aloe and cactus varietals are also great options for adding ambiance to your space without worrying about light or daily watering.
A small row of plants can fit nicely on a windowsill, bookshelf or counter top. Feeling crafty? Consider decorating your flower or herb pots with paints, shells and beads to add an extra pop to your apartment!
During Christmas season, think about getting an artificial tree. Most of these trees can be used for multiple Christmas seasons and prevents you from having to carry a real tree down the stairs to the dumpster.
If you have some money left over after decorating your apartments with plants or flowers, then consider adding some more life to your apartment by decorating your space with artwork and photographs.
