If you’ve been trying to decide whether you want to rent space in a house or rent an apartment, look no further! Here’s why apartment home living is the good life.
1. Staying Social
Almost all of the major apartment complexes in college towns sponsor community events, giving you the opportunity to meet your neighbors. It’s important to network in college, and it can be more difficult to meet people if you’re living in a house or with your family. Most apartments have at least one social media platform they use to reach out to residents, so be sure to stay up to date with yours!
2. Roomies
Student apartments often offer roommate-matching services. This can be really helpful if you’re new to the area and haven’t met anyone who needs a place to live. Roommates really cut the cost of living expenses and provide another social outlet so you can stay connected.
3. I Got Options
Eh, maybe the roommate thing didn’t work out for you. Or maybe it worked so well that you want more. Good thing you rented from an apartment community! They make it easy to transition from one floorplan to the next, and with 12 month leases you’re never tied down for too long.
4. Location, Location, Location
You’ll find that apartment properties are wonderfully, conveniently located to address your needs as a student. Don’t have a car and need to be able to walk or bike to campus? Want to be where the action is and prefer to stay close to nightlife? Prefer easy access to shopping and restaurants? There’s an apartment for you!
5. Fitness Amenities
How much have you been paying for your gym membership? CNBC reports that people pay as much as $800/year including initiation fees. Most apartments have a fitness center with its membership already built into your rent as an amenity. Some even come with a yoga studio and a steam room, and properties in warmer states typically have a swimming pool.
6. Maintenance
This feature is sent from heaven. Maybe you don’t know how to fix your toilet, or maybe you don’t have time to patch a leak. Have no fear, the maintenance man is here! Many communities provide 24hr maintenance, pest control, and lock out services to their residents, so you don’t have to sweat repairs. Like the fitness center, it’s all included as an amenity, so you can just save that money for game day.
7. Furnishings
Broke student with no furniture? They’ve already thought of that. A lot of off-campus student housing complexes come with optional furniture packages, or discounts on furniture rentals from companies with whom they partner.
8. All-Inclusion
And speaking of packages, how about cable, internet, and other utilities? Many apartments have that covered too. You may be given an electricity cap, or you might only have to pay electricity and water. Each property has a different amount of coverage for bills you won’t have to worry about.
All in all, apartment living is pretty much the sweet life. Between school, work, extracurriculars, a social life, and (maybe) sleep, you’ll already have enough to worry about. Don’t let your life be harder than it needs to be.
