Summer is officially here! The season to soak up the sun is upon us, and while you may be planning on spending most of your time outdoors, don’t forget to put some attention to the inside of your home by injecting some summer vibes into it!
If you’re ready for summer and want the inside of your home to match the beauty that summer has to offer outdoors, here are seven ways to bring summer vibes inside!
1. Incorporate Bright Colors: Summer is the season for sunshine and fun, but if the inside of your home is still giving off fall and winter vibes, it can be hard to get excited about the warm season. Do away with the dark browns, reds, blues, purples, greens, etc. of winter, and bring in bright colors such as white, yellow, orange, and pastel blues and greens to open up your space. Accessorize by adding throw pillows, blankets, wall art, tablecloths, placemats, etc, that match your walls and the overall vibe you’re going for. If you’re having trouble bringing out your creative side or trying to figure out a color palette for your home, you can always go for a theme (like Nautical, for example), or search for inspiration on Pinterest!
2. Add a Touch of Nature: Nothing quite says summer like fresh blossoming flowers and plants. Match the beauty of the outdoors by channeling your inner green thumb and adding some plants and/or flowers to your space! The addition of plants is a simple way to breathe life into your home and give you a taste of the outdoors from the comfort of your couch. Choose a few low-maintenance plants, like succulents or Calatheas, and put them in your living room, kitchen, dining room, etc. Additionally, if you’re someone that can’t resist the smell or look of fresh flowers, go out and pick a bouquet for yourself every once in a while!
3. Use Summery Scents: There is something so nice about having a home that smells pleasant. During the fall months, pumpkin spice and apple scents are common favorites, while winter brings out comforting scents like balsam and gingerbread. The feeling of summer is equally about scents and smells as is the overall aesthetic. To make your home feel even more summery, pack up your seasonal scents from fall and winter, and get candles, wax melts, room sprays, etc. that are fresh and perfect for the warm weather. Think of scents like coconut and pineapple, cucumber melon, lavender, lilac, etc. The small addition of summer scents will uplift you and help you feel even more connected to the season.
4. Get Creative With Lighting: Lighting in any house can be boring after a while, and in the summer months, lighting is another great way to get the ambiance and vibe of your place just right. String lights have become very popular over the past few years, with many people putting these dazzling lights on patios, decks, or even front porches. While string lights definitely have their purpose outdoors, hanging them indoors is the perfect way to bring that summer feeling inside. There are a number of different string lights out there, and each set can differ from light bulb to rope length to brand. Have fun choosing the lights, and hang them anywhere you want a cozy environment.
5. Utilize Natural Elements: What really makes summer so special is the process of nature being brought back to life, which typically includes longer days of sunlight, warm temperatures, and gentle breezes. These natural elements of the season can be enjoyed indoors by simply opening up the blinds and curtains, opening up the windows, and letting sunlight and fresh air in the house. The smell of fresh-cut grass and flowers combined with a multicolored sunset in the late evening makes for the ultimate summer chill spot.
6. Make a Tiki Bar Cart: Tiki bars are a quintessential part of any summertime celebration or gathering. Fringe decoration, tropical flowers, unique glasses, lively music, and delicious drinks are what many associate with a tiki bar, but if you don’t have the space or the funds to get one, you can bring the tiki bar inside by making a tiki bar cart! Using a regular bar cart or a shelf, get flower decor, fake greenery, string lights, fun signs, and an assortment of summer-themed drinks to fill up a bar cart in your house. It will still give you that feeling of summertime without being outdoors!
7. Bring the Outdoor Activities Inside: There are a plethora of activities that can be done outdoors, but depending on factors like the weather, your mood for the day, or the number of guests you may have over, there is a chance that doing outdoor activities isn’t the best option. Thankfully, most outdoor activities can be brought inside! Don’t feel like dealing with mosquitos when making a batch of s’mores? Toast the marshmallows on the stove for that same delicious effect. Gather around your living room, pop some popcorn, get some of your favorite snacks and candies, and make your own home theater- it’s way cheaper (and more fun) than the usual movies!
Enjoying summer outside is great, but creating a summertime vibe and aesthetic indoors is just as meaningful, and if you follow these tips, your home will be the perfect summer spot to hang out in for the next few months!
