Congrats, you’re moving out of the dorm and into an apartment.
This is a big deal.
But before you start packing everything, there are a few things you can ditch now that you’re leaving the dorm.
- Twin XL sheets.
- It’s rare to find an apartment that is furnished with a twin mattress much more a twin XL mattress. Donate or reuse the sheets and pick up some full or normal twin sets.
- Your area rug.
- You’ll still need one in your apartment but after a year in a dorm room, the one you have now is past it’s prime. Invest in a new rug. A new apartment deserves a new rug. Plus, a lot of them are very reasonable.
- Shower shoes.
- This goes hand and hand with the area rug. They’ve been in a communal bathroom for a year, they need to be replaced
- Medications that aren’t prescription.
- Over the counter pills have an expiration date so it’s better to be safe than sorry. Think Advil and Tylenol. If you haven’t finished the container after a year, trash it and get a new one.
- Broken hangers.
- Sure they were fine for the dorm, but there is no need to start lugging them to your new place. A set of new hangers is under $5 and will make your life so much easier.
- Mini fridge.
- Most apartments come with a kitchen that has a full sized refrigerator. Instead of dragging your mini fridge from the dorm, sell it. Someone else will love being able to buy one right on campus instead of bringing one from home.
Don’t go crazy schlepping everything from your dorm. Leave the mini fridge and shower shoes at home, you got this.
