Moving into a college apartment can be a lonely experience, especially after you have finished moving most of your belongings into your new home and have the place all to yourself.
Once all the boxes, furniture and other items are moved in, what’s next? It’s time to make your new apartment feel like home! These six steps will help take your apartment from a foreign place to an actual lived-in home.
Start with the Closet
You may not know where to turn with all those boxes stacked and waiting to be unpacked. Start by organizing your clothes, shoes, and accessories in your closet. This way you won’t have to rummage around for a matching outfit in the morning. You’ll be able to get dressed and hit the ground running.
Personal and Sentimental Items
Next, unpack anything that holds personal meaning to you. This could be a favorite book to put on your bedside table, pictures of friends or family, or a special decor item that you love.
Keys Misplaced?
How many times have you asked yourself the question, “where are my keys?” Designate an area where you will keep essentials like your wallet, keys, cell phone and anything else you need to get out the door in the morning.
Cozy up the Place
Light a candle with a scent you love and turn on your favorite music while unpacking. The familiar scents and sounds will make you feel right at home.
Cook a Meal
As soon as you unpack your kitchen, create a home cooked meal. It can be a favorite family recipe or one you found on Pinterest.
Include art in your decor
Once you’re unpacked, step back and look at your space to get a feel for what it represents. Then head out and choose a few pieces of art as the finishing touch.
