Life can be pretty boring without money. After rent and utilities, and of course the massive school expenses, money can get a little tight. Instead succumbing your free time to your financial woes, get creative, find a buddy and get out there and live. With the right imagination, you can find plenty of cheap things to make life more interesting, even without any funds.
Hit the commons!
Most college apartments have a well-landscaped commons area. Go soak up some sun and experience the surrounding environment. You could take a favorite book and a blanket and sit and read. You could invite a romantic interest and have a picnic. Just as the park most likely is, the options are wide open.
Crash a party!
College is the ultimate party-crasher era. Take a walk around your apartment complex and listen for music. If there are people on the porch than you probably have just found some festivities. Take a shot and work your way in. Maybe you will make some new friends or meet a new romantic interest.
Hit campus!
The campus environment is always fascinating – people coming and going, organizations promoting their cause, other bored students playing games between classes. Sometimes the best adventures are found when there aren’t any plans. Get out there see what kind of substance you can spark into your life.
Go to the library!
Sure it sounds boring at first thought, but it has to be better than just blankly staring lazily on your couch. Just go scan the books, see what’s there. You may find a new author that you haven’t heard of or learn a new skill. There’s also newspapers available to read; give them a scan and get informed on what’s going on in the real world.
Go to the mall!
You don’t have to buy anything to have a decent time at the mall. Park yourself at the food court and let the show begin – people walking by, couples arguing, children crying – allow yourself to be perceptive and you’d be amazed what kind of fun you could have. Try taking a notebook and make notes on your observations – make it a nature show.
College success relies on personal sacrifice – not having money is one of them. If you have a positive attitude and allow yourself to be open to new ideas, than there are no limits to finding free entertainment. And, if all else fails, financial aide will come eventually and then you can go to town (metaphorically speaking).
