3 Apps. that Make Walking at Night Safer
No matter where you live, walking alone at night can be a stressful experience. Even with your cell phone, it can takes minutes to call 911 or an emergency contact and explain a situation. Check out these great apps that can make any walk at night safer.
Companion; This app runs by first having you select certain contacts or companions to share your location with. (Don’t worry, your contacts don’t need to download the app for you to use it with them.) Then as the user, you plug in the address that you’re headed to. If at anytime something occurs such as you going down the wrong road, or your phone being dropped the app will send a notification to your companions with your new location. This is great for those nights when you walk home from a night out and find yourself alone.
Watch Over Me; Like a countdown clock, this app runs by estimating the length of your trip based upon average walking speeds. If you do not make it to your set location on time then the app will send a notification with your location to emergency contacts you provided. When the timer is over or if you make it home safe before it ends, just click the “I’m Safe” button to close the app. Unlike Companion, this app will only send out an emergency signal if you enable it or if you do not make it home in time.
Safe Trek; The easiest of the three to use this app works on a press and hold system. Simply open the application, set your pin and hold your thumb on the “Hold until Safe Button”. If at any time while using the app you remove your thumb and do not type in your pin then your location and phone number will be sent to local police so they can send help.
Regardless of the app you choose, it is important to stay safe and remember to be careful when walking alone at night. The best advice is to travel in groups but that’s not always possible. Have any app suggestions of your own? Let us know in the comment section.
