Moving in can be a stressful, albeit exciting experience.
However, in order for the move-in process to go as smoothly as possible, you need to be organized. If you’re moving in for summer semester, you most likely won’t have a lot of time to relax before the start of classes — summer semester usually offer the same workload as the fall and spring semesters within a compressed time frame. Also, if you’re moving in with new roommates, or even friends you’ve known a long time, you might want to socialize before the classes start.
Nobody wants to spend hours or day on moving in and unpacking.
The best way to have an easy move is to organize your belongings before you get to your new home.
Here are two easy ways to organize boxes before arriving at your new college apartment.
Make sure you know what’s in every box.
Clearly mark your moving boxes with the area where the items will go. (Dedicate boxes to particular areas; don’t lump DVDs and video games with toiletries.) Dishes, frying pan, coffee mugs? Mark it “kitchen.” Sheets, comforter, favorite stuffed animal? Mark it “bedroom.” Have the movers deliver it there, so you don’t have to sweat and strain getting it to the right area.
Ensure you can easily access your necessities
Pack so that the items you need first are on top. If new neighbors stop by and invite you to an impromptu party, are you going to say “no, I have to unpack first”? Probably not. You should pack so that the things you need the next day are obtainable. You’ll want your coffee mug on top and probably your pillow too.
