Decorating an apartment can get expensive.
Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on decor that you’ll likely only use for 4 or so years, save time and money by making your own. You don’t have to be a crafting goddess to do it either.
Here are 10 DIY Decorative Crafts for Your College Apartment;
- Mason Jar Soap Dispenser. Take any size mason jar you have lying around and drill a hole in the lid large enough to fit a soap dispenser pump. Use an old soap dispenser pump to save money and the environment.
- Painted Branch Bouquet. Grab a handful of branches (hint they should be small enough to look like flower stems) and your favorite colored paints. Then paint each branch however you’d like to create the perfect vase filler. Use your school colors to give game days an extra pop.
- Wood Door Headboard. An old door is easier to find then you may think, dumpster dive or head to a local thrift store and pick one up. Then grab your favorite color and get to work. This easy DIY is perfect for a furnished apartment that just needs a pop of individuality.
- Shower Curtain Canvas. If you love the design on a shower curtain and the price tag is half that of some wall art of the same size. Don’t panic, just mount the curtain on a blank canvas and hang it on your wall instead. Make sure it the material is perfectly mounted and people won’t believe you when you say it’s a shower curtain.
- Metallic Candles. Swap those boring whitewash candles for a metallic pop of color with nothing more than a roll of duct tape. Wrap a few layers of metallic tape around the candle for a chic modern twist.
- Wine Bottle Vase. Grab that empty wine bottle sitting on your counter and spray paint to make an eclectic vase for little to no money. Make sure you wash the bottle first to get rid of any other materials and then spray in any design you’d like. The best part of this is that if you mess up, you can just start over on another bottle.
- Tie Knot Throw. Head on over to your favorite craft store and pick up two oversized pieces of your favorite material. The fabric should be snuggly and feel like any other throw would. They place both pieces on top of each other and cut slits around the edges of each piece. Tie both pieces of material together around the edges to make a throw blanket that is custom for you.
- Milk Crate Shelves. These are a dime a dozen and can be found all over. Grab as many as you can and then paint them whatever color you’d like. Once dry, hang them up so that the open box is facing you and you’ve made a deep sitting shelf.
- Towel Ladder. Space in an apartment is hard to come by so to save you from having a separate table in your bathing specifically for towels, use this trick. Find an old wooden ladder and angle it against the wall space in your bathroom. For safety reasons, you might want to nail it into the wall or at least buy some nylon tips to hold the ladder in place.
- Homemade Throw Pillow. All you need for this is an old canvas bag or new depending on the design you want, polyfill stuffing and a hot glue gun. Remove or fold the handles in and fill the bag with the stuffing. Once this is done, use the hot glue gun to seal your bag, try to fold the seam into the bag so the glue doesn’t drip.
You don’t have to be the queen or king of crafting to save some money and make your own apartment decorations.
